Directed and co-written by Jeeva and produced by Oscar Ravichandran its stars Vinay Rai, Sadha and Tanisha Mukherjee in the lead roles. Raju Sundaram and Lekha Washington, prominent actors from the south Indian film industry, played the roles of the lead character's friends in the movie.

The film revolves around the aftermath of a relationship between a careless man and a serious woman. Despite being in a relationship, the latter walks out on the former due to his antics with other women. However, the man changes his ways and on a business trip to Melbourne, he encounters another woman. This other woman's personal assistant turns out to be the man's former lover. The events that follow and who the man eventually gets together with form the crux of the story.

The film opened to Indian audiences after several delays, on 14 April 2007, coinciding with the Tamil New Year. Despite receiving mixed reviews on the actors' performances, the film went on to win the box office battle on Tamil New Year's Day and become a major hit at the South Indian box office.[3] Owing to its success, it was later dubbed into the Telugu language as Neevalle Neevalle.[4] Furthermore, the film is also set to be remade into Hindi, with both Sadha and Tanisha Mukherjee reprising their roles.[5] Unnale Unnale was the last film that director Jeeva completed before his death.

Click read more to watch the movie

Tamil online movies - Baashha

<img class="fullpage" style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 100px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Y12aRjqG3y4/Tav8CI4FQeI/AAAAAAAAAbE/qmTT-v5Dy2A/s320/rajini_basha.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596844075610620386" />

Watch superstar Rajnikanth in this blockbuster Tamil movie Baashha starring Superstar Rajni, Nagma, Raghuvaran, Vijaykumar, Janakraj, Devan, Sasikumar & Anand Raj. The team is led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, currently the captain of the Indian cricket team, and coached by Stephen Fleming. The M. A. Chidambaram Stadium (often referred to as Chepauk) is the Super Kings' home ground.

The Chennai Super Kings are a part of the eight club Indian Premier League. The franchise is currently owned by India Cements, who paid US$91 million to acquire the rights to the franchise for 10 years in 2008. N. Srinivasan, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of India Cements Ltd., is the defacto owner of the Chennai Super Kings, by means of his position within the company. He is also the Secretary of the BCCI.

Krishnamachari Srikkanth, former captain of the Indian Cricket Team, is the brand ambassador for the franchise, and former Indian opener V. B. Chandrasekhar is the Chief Selector.

Chennai Super Kings did not have an icon player. This allowed the Super Kings to bid successfully on Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Muralitharan, two of the six A listed players. At the time of the bidding, Dhoni's US$1.5 Million was the highest bid for any player and still remains the highest bid for any Indian player.

In February 2009, the Chennai Super Kings purchased Andrew Flintoff for USD1,550,000, $600,000 above his base price, making him, along with Kevin Pietersen the highest paid IPL player.

Districts of Tamil Nadu

Blow list show state of Tamil Nadu, in southeastern India is divided into 32 districts. i lived in two districts thoothukudi(22) and in Coimbatore. During the 16th and 18th centuries, Madurai was ruled by the Nayak Emperors, the foremost of whom was Tirumalai Nayakar. The Sangam period poet Nakkeerar is associated with some of the Tiruvilayaadal episodes of Sundareswarar - that are enacted as a part of temple festival traditions even today.

As early as the 3rd century BC, Megasthanes visited Madurai. Later many people from Rome and Greece visited Madurai and established trade with the Pandya kings. Madurai flourished till 10th century AD when it was captured by Cholas the arch rivals of the Pandyas.

The Cholas ruled Madurai from 920 AD till the beginning of the 13th century. In 1223 AD Pandyas regained their kingdom and once again become prosperous. Pandian Kings patronised Tamil language in a great way. During their period, many master-pieces were created. "Silapathikaram", the great epic in Tamil was written based on the story of Kannagi who burnt Madurai as a result of the injustice caused to her husband Kovalan. In April 1311, Malik Kafur, the general of Alauddin Khilji who was then the ruler of Delhi, reached Madurai and raided and robbed the city for precious stones, jewels, and other rare treasures. This led to the subsequent raids by other Muslim Sultans. In 1323, the Pandya kingdom including Madurai became a province of the Delhi empire, under the Tughlaks.

The 1371, the Vijayanagar dynasty of Hampi captured Madurai and it became part of the Vijayanagar empire. Kings of this dynasty were in habit of leaving the captured land to governors called Nayaks. This was done for the efficient management of their empire. The Nayaks paid fixed amount annually to the Vijayanagar empire. After the death of Krishna Deva Raya (King of Vijayanagar empire) in 1530 AD, the Nayaks became independent and ruled the territories under their control. Among Nayaks, Thirumalai Nayak (1623-1659) was very popular, even now he is popular among people, since, it was he who contributed to the creation of many magnificent structures in and around Madurai. The Raja Gopuram of the Meenakshi Amman Temple, The Pudu Mandapam and The Thirumalai Nayakar's Palace are living monuments to his artistic fervor. Madurai started slipping into the hands of the British's East India Company. In 1781, British appointed their representatives to look after Madurai. George Procter was the first collector of Madurai.

Now after India's independence, Madurai is one of the major districts of Tamilnadu State. Later on Madurai district was bifurcated into two districts namely Madurai and Dindugul Districts. In Madurai District, there are 15 State Assembly constituencies and two parliament constituencies.

Madurai is famous for its temples. The Aappudaiyaar Koyil Tevara Stalam and the Koodalazhagar Divya Desam are the most important temples one should rarely miss to go. In the vicinity of Madurai is Tirupparamkunram, one of the 6 padai veedu shrines of Murugan (glorified in Madurai Sangam Nakeerar’s Tirumurugaatruppadai). Also in the vicinity of Madurai is Alagar Koyil, one of the prominent Divya Desam shrines of the Sri Vaishnavite faith

The best places to visit in maduri

Sree Meenakshi Temple

Thirumalai Nayak Palace

Gandhi Museum

Thirupparamkundram

Azhagar Kovil

Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam

Places to be visited around and nearby Madurai

Package Tour

Chennai District

The Chennai District is a district in the state of Tamil Nadu. The district is a city district which means that it does not have a district headquarters. Most of the city region of Chennai comes under this district. It is divided into five talukas; namely Egmore-Nungambakam, Fort Tondiarpet, Mambalam-Guindy, Mylapore-Triplicane and Perambur-Purasawalkkam.

In 1996, the Tamil nadu government renamed Madras to Chennai providing the reason that 'Chennai' was the city's traditional name while Madras was one derived during colonial rule. The reasons for this name change is somewhat ambiguous as by no means clear that "Madras" is of foreign origin.

Chennai district is listed as the "most advanced" district in Tamil Nadu. It has several options for mainstream entertainment with malls, multiplexes, restaurants and Hotels at nearly every major commericial district. Pubs and lounges however are restricted to only hotels in Chennai, due to legal restrictions on the sale of liqor.
Climate
Chennai has mainly two seasons - Summer and Monsoon. It does not enjoy the South-west monsoon, but gets its bountiful rains from the North-east monsoon from October through December, thus amounting to about 125-150 cm of rainfall annually. December to February are the mildest months temperature-wise.Climate is humid pretty much throughout the year because it is on the coast. They were some of the most famous and important female poets of the Tamil canon. Among them, Auvaiyar I lived during the Sangam period (c. first and second century C.E.) and had cordial relation with the Tamil chieftains, Pari and Athikaman. She wrote 59 poems in Purananuru (புறநானூறு).

Auvaiyar II lived during the period of Kambar and Ottakkuttar during the reign of the Cholas in the 13th century C.E. She is often imagined as an old but intelligent lady by Tamil and primarily referred by them as Auvai.

Auvaiyar II wrote many of the poems that remain very popular even now and are inculcated in school text books in the State of Tamil Nadu. These books include a list of dos and donts, useful for daily life, arranged in simple and short sentences.

Abithana Chintamani states that there were three female poets in the name of Auvaiyar.

Sangam age Auvaiyar

The Auvaiyar who lived during the Sangam period was the court poet of the rulers of the Tamil country. She travelled from one part of the country to another and from one village to another, sharing the gruel of the poor farmers and composing songs for their enjoyment. The Purananuru poet wrote most of her songs on the small time chieftain Vallal Athiyamaan Nedumaan Anji and his family. The rest of her songs related to the various aspects of state governance.

Chola age Auvaiyar

The medieval period Auvaiyar was the court poet of the Chola monarch and was the contemporary of Kambar and Ottakkuttar. She found great happiness in the life of small children. Her works, Aathichoodi and Konraiventhan written for young children, are even now generally read and enjoyed by them.

Her two other works, Mooturai and Nalvali were written for older children. All the four works are didactic in character — they explain the basic wisdom that should govern mundane life.

Auvaiyar Quotes

The following quotes from Aathichoodi illustrate the simplicity of her style and profoundness of the messages:

ஆத்திசூடி

அறம் (Tamil: இளங்கோ அடிகள்) was a Tamil poet, who was instrumental in the creation of Silappathikaram, one of the five great epics of South India. Prince Ilango Adigal was the brother of the Chera king Cheran Chenguttuvan (in modern day Kerala), in South India.

Ilango Adigal was born in the Chera dynasty that ruled parts of what is now known as Kerala, but formed part of the Tamil Land . He was the second son to his father, but a saint told him that he will become the king instead of his first brother senguttuvan.so ilango became a saint and Senguttuvan his brother, became the king after his father's death.

However, Ilango and the Cheras are still remembered more for the contribution to Tamil literature rather than for Senguttuvan's military expeditions, when he conquered the entire country. Ilango Adigal wrote Silapathikaram which was the first Tamil (or is it in any language) epic that was written about a common man. As a matter of fact, most of the tamil epics are all about common men and how they led their life rather than on kings and queens. A common man's story written by a King.

Silapathikaram was a feminocentric epic, centered around Kannagi, theme that was also a first of its kind in a man centric world. It is clear Ilango was an orthodox Hindu as he is said to have attended a Vedic yajna. There is no evidence that he was a Jain.

Thiruvalluvar

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_dvZsQofhG38/SOMPVJhcwUI/AAAAAAAAAT0/fKeGI_qz9Xw/s200/Thiruvalluvar.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5252058446452015426" />

Thiruvalluvar (Tamil: திருவள்ளுவர்) is a celebrated Tamil poet who wrote the Thirukkural, an ethical work in Tamil literature. He is claimed by both the Tamils who practice Hinduism and the Tamils who practice Jainism as their own. Nevertheless, some consider him as a Jain showing internal textual evidence from Thirukural.

Thiruvalluvar's period (based on the Thirukkural per se) is between the second century BC and the eighth century AD.

Both Thiruvalluvar's faith and identity are disputed. His disputed identity includes a low-caste Hindu(Paraiyar), Jain, Buddhist, high-caste Hindu, Brahmin and half-Brahmin.

Traditional accounts

Most of the Researchers and great Tamil Scholars like George Uglow Pope or G.U. Pope who had spent many years in Tamil Nadu and translated many Tamil texts into English, which includes Thirukkural, Karl Graul (1814–1864) had already by 1855 characterized the Tirukkural as 'a work of Buddhist hue'. In this connection it was then of particular interest that Thiruvalluvar, It should be noted that Graul could have been subsuming the Jains also under the name of the Buddhists (Graul 1865: xi note). The name Valluvan was/is a common name representing his caste/occupation rather than his proper name. The Priests are called valluvan.

The name Thiruvalluvar (ThiruValluvar) consists of Thiru (a polite Tamil word, similar to Mr) and Valluvar (a polite name for Valluvan, according to Tamil tradition).

There are a few legends abound about the birthplace of Thiruvalluvar. One legend associates him to Madurai, the ancient capital of the Pandya rulers who vigorously promoted Tamil literature. According to another he was born and lived in Mylapore, a part of present day Chennai city and travelled to Madurai to submit his work, the Thirukural, for approval of the king (Pandian) and his college of poets.

There are, also, traditional stories citing the Tamil Sangam of Madurai (the assembly/conference of eminent scholars and researchers conducted on a regular basis) as the authority through which Thirukkural was introduced to the world. Thiruvalluvar might have spent most part of his life in Madurai because it was under Pandia rulers that many Tamil poets flourished. There are also recent claim by Kanyakumari Historical and Cultural Research Centre (KHCRC) that Valluvar was a king who ruled Valluvanadu in the hilly tracts of Kanyakumari District of Tamil Nadu.

Thirukkural

Thirukkural is one of most revered works in the Tamil. It consists of 133 athikarams or chapters. Each athikaram consists of 10 kurals (rhyming Tamil couplets) thus making 1330 kurals in total. Each couplet consists of four seers in the first line and three seers in the second. A seer is a single or a combination of more than one Tamil word. The first Kural is Agara Muthala Ezhuthellam Aathi; Bagavan Muthatrey Ulagu.

Thirukkural is divided into three sections. Section one deals with Aram doing things, with conscience and honor, for the good of the less fortunate, the second discusses Porul realities or facts of life, and the third dwells on Inbam the pleasures that a man and a woman experience in the course of their relationship. There are 38 chapters in the first section, 70 chapters in the second and 25 chapters in the third section.

There is a huge (133 feet tall) statue of Thiruvalluvar showing his first three fingers. The statue is carved out of rock and erected at the southern tip of India (Kanyakumari) where the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, and the Indian Ocean confluence. The 133 ft denotes Thirukkural's 133 athikarams and the show of three fingers, to denote the three themes Aram, Porul, and Inbam.

Kambar

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_dvZsQofhG38/SOMLiktTzrI/AAAAAAAAATs/KxA6g5z1NV0/s200/kamban.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5252054279041306290" />

Kambar (Tamil: கம்பர்) was a Tamil poet. Kambar is popularly known for authoring Ramavatharam, (popularly known as Kambaramayanam), the Tamil version of Ramayana, or the Story of Rama, one of the oldest epics in human history inspired by the Sanskrit epic.

The original version was written by Sage Valmiki. This epic of 24,000 verses tells of a Raghuvamsa prince, Rama of Ayodhya, whose wife Sita is abducted by Ravana, a mighty emperor. In Hindu mythology Rama is considered to be the Seventh incarnation of God Vishnu, one of the Hindu holy trinity (Brahma and Shiva completing the trinity).

Kamban flourished in the 12th Century in Therazhundur, a village in the culturally rich Thanjavur District in the modern state of Tamil Nadu in South India. Kamban was a great scholar of India's two ancient and rich languages, Sanskrit and Tamil. Mahavidwan R. Raghava Iyengar in a scholarly biography,Kavicakravarty Kamban writes in detail about this 12th century poet.

The Ramavataram or Kamba Ramayanam of Kamban is an epic of over 10,000 verses, of 4-lines each. Kamba Ramayana is not a translation of the Sanskrit epic by Valmiki, but an original retelling of the story of the God Rama. The poetic work is well known for its similes. It is therefore so great that one is amazed by the imagination created.

Legend has it that the entire episode was written in one night by Lord Ganesha. Ganesha is said to have written the poems that Kambar dictated to him during the night, as Kambar procrastinated the work till the day before the deadline set by the King. There is a saying that Kamban veetu kattu thariyum kavi paadum, loosely meaning Even Kamban's loom can pen a poem.

Kambar has also written literary works like Er Ezhupathu (seventy songs on the greatness of agriculture) and the Mangala Vazhthu (praising the greatness and benovalence of the Kongu Vellala Gounder who were his patrons, Sadayappa Vallal also belonging to the community).

Vairamuthu

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_dvZsQofhG38/SOMJSfnWoUI/AAAAAAAAATk/W9PKFrqLsdc/s200/Vairamuthu1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5252051803772985666" />

Vairamuthu, born in 1953 in Theni district of Tamil Nadu is a noted Tamil poet and lyricist. A Staunch Dravida kazhagam follower with strong political leaning towards the DMK and their DK parents. His fans consider him to be the true inheritor of Kannadasan although its far from true for Kannadasan was far greater in depth and lyricism.Vairamuthu is subject of much hype amongst Political circles due to his strong political leaning.

He has been awarded the National Film Award five times in the Best Lyrics category. His literary contributions are well-respected among the DMK and DK followers. He is a recipient of Kalaimamani Award and Tamil Nadu State Government award thrice for his contribution to Tamil literature.

He made his foray into the tinsel world in 1980 with his superhit number `Ponmalai Pozhudhu' in `Nizhalgal', and since then Vairamuthu has never looked back.Today, he stands tall as a five-time winner of national award.

He has constantly teamed with master-composer A. R. Rahman and ace director Mani Ratnam. The trio have delivered several musical hits including Roja, Bombay, Alaipayuthey and Kannathil Muthamittal.
Early life and Education
Vairamuthu was born in a rich farming community of Vadugapatti village, Theni District near Periyakulam. His father was Ramaswamy Thevar and mother AngammaL. The ambience of the village is said to have inspired him to write poems. Tamil and Rationalist movements of the sixties is said to have stimulated the poetic zeal in him. The speeches of Periyar & Anna, the writings of Karunanidhi and the works of eminent poets like Bharathi, Bharathidasan and Kannadasan and the life in the countryside shaped the young poet's thinking. While he was fourteen, he acquired the ability to write Yappu type of Venba poetry.

In his school final exam in Tamil, Vairamuthu stood first in the entire Madurai District and won a silver cup. After completing his school education, he joined Pachaiyappa's college in Chennai where he was acclaimed as the best speaker and poet. When he was in his second year of B.A. and barely nineteen years of age, Vairamuthu published his maiden anthology, Vaigarai Megangal. He is not, however, averse to change or modernism and he uses with equal felicity free verse (puthu kavithai in Tamil), wherever it suits him. For him, content is more important than the form.

With 5,600 songs to his credit, he has published nine collections of poems for the discerning readers. His writings have also extended to genres such as novel, essay, biography and travelogue. Some of his works are translated into Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The trend continues into hundreds of his film lyrics are translated into Hindi. His Chinna Chinna Aasai fascinated a Japanese troupe touring India so much, that they broke language barriers by singing the song during their shows.

Thanner Thesam

This Riviyal kaaviyam is about the 'sea odyssey'. Kalaivannan is the hero; Tamilrojaa is the heroine. A lot of scientific facts about the sea, water, and the universe are sown in this modern poetry(pudhukk kavidhai). The work depicts the adventure of fishermen's life at sea. "read".

Kallikattu Idhikasam

Kallikkattu Edhikasam (the epic of Kallikkadu, in literal translation) is one of his novels. It tells the agonising tale of a marginal farmer of a riverbed region of the Theni belt in southern Tamil Nadu. Kallikattu Ithikasam" - a confluence of various emotions like sadness, sufferings and depression -- crammed his mind for more than four decades. Finally, when it exploded, the natives of `Kallikadugal' found their biographies in the book. But with a silver lining. The novel won him the Sahitya Akademi award for Best Literary Work in 2003.

Karuvachi Kaaviyam

This depicts powerfully the facets of rural life in a remote corner of our State, was serialized in a popular regional weekly,Ananda Vikatan and won accolades. Owing to its huge popularity, the series was released as a novel

Kannadasan

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_dvZsQofhG38/SOMGGVqFoOI/AAAAAAAAATc/McLGVnXDViI/s200/kannadasn.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5252048296406786274" />

Kannadasan (Tamil: கண்ணதாசன்) (24 June 1927 – 17 October 1981) was a famous Tamil poet and lyricist, who lived in Tamil Nadu, India. He is frequently called kavi arasu Kannadasan (kavi arasu means 'king of poets' in Tamil language). He was born in small village by name Sirukudalpatti near karaikudi. He wrote thousands of popular songs for Tamil cinema. He won the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize for his novel Cheraman Kadali in the year 1980.

His given name at birth was Muthiah. However, when he passed away at the age of 54, on October 16, 1981, millions of Tamils remembered him only by the name Kannadasan. For Tamils all over the world, he epitomised their poetry style. Even those who couldn't read the poetry of Kamban or the maxims of Valluvan, could hum the compositions of poet Kannadasan.

A number count of his publications shows a tally of 109 volumes, which include 21 novels and 10 slim volumes of essays on Hinduism, captioned Arthamulla Indu Matham (Meaningful Hinduism). In addition, he produced about 4000 poems and approximately 5000 movie lyrics, between 1944 and 1981, all with an eighth grade education at the formal level. He was also an excellent example of this century's Tamil goliard.

There is no doubt that he had a penetrating eye and keen observational powers. He also did not live a cocoon-type of life. He dipped into everything that Tamil Nadu could offer - wine, women, drugs, politics, polemics, atheism and religious sanctuary. After enjoying everything, what he did was remarkable - he composed verses about all his experiences, with reflective self-deprecating humour, irony, and biting sarcasm. These verses touched the sympathetic chords of Tamils from all walks of life - school boys, undergrads, housewives, farmers, manual labourers, plantation workers, middle class representatives and even upper class elites.
Atheism to Hinduism
Muthiah was a staunch atheist and a follower of the Dravidian atheistic movement. He had great love for the Tamil language and culture, and excelled in Tamil literature, prose and poetry. He once read the Thiruppavai of Andal, and was amazed at its mystic poetry, that was to have a deep and everlasting impact on him. It has official status in India, Sri Lanka and Singapore. Tamil is also spoken by significant minorities in Malaysia, Mauritius, Vietnam, Réunion as well as emigrant communities around the world. It is the administrative language of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, and the first Indian language to be declared as a classical language by the government of India in 2004, followed by Sanskrit. Tamil literature has existed for over two thousand years. The earliest epigraphic records found date from around the third century BCE. The earliest period of Tamil literature, Sangam literature, is dated from the 3rd century BC to 6th century AD.

Tamil is one of the ancient languages of the world with records in the language dating back over two millennia. Its origins are not precisely known, but it developed and flourished in India as a language with a rich literature. With an estimated 30,000 inscriptions, Tamil has the largest number of inscriptions in South Asia.

Tamil has the oldest extant literature amongst the Dravidian languages, but dating the language and the literature precisely is difficult. Literary works in India were preserved either in palm leaf manuscripts (implying repeated copying and recopying) or through oral transmission, making direct dating impossible. External chronological records and internal linguistic evidence, however, indicate that the oldest extant works were probably compiled sometime between the 2nd century BCE and the 10th century CE.

Tamil scholars categorize the history of the language into three periods, Old Tamil (300 BC - 700 CE), Middle Tamil (700 - 1600) and Modern Tamil (1600-present). Epigraphic attestation of Tamil begins with rock inscriptions from the 3rd century BC, written in Tamil-Brahmi, an adapted form of the Brahmi script. The earliest extant literary text is the Tolkāppiyam, a work on poetics and grammar which describes the language of the classical period, dated variously between the 3rd century BCE and 5th century CE.

The Sangam literature contains about 50,000 lines of poetry contained in 2381 poems attributed to 473 poets including many women poets. Many of the poems of Sangam period were also set to music. During the post-Sangam period, important works like Thirukkural, and epic poems were composed, including Silappatikaram, Manimekalai, Sīvakacintāmani, Valaiyapathi and Kundalakesi which are known as the five great epics. The Bhakthi period is known for the great outpouring of devotional songs set to pann music, including over eight thousand Tevaram verses on Saivism and four thousand verses on Vaishnavism. The early mediaeval Period gave rise to a popular adaptation of the Ramayana in Tamil, known as Kamba Ramayanam and a story of 63 Nayanmars known as Periyapuranam.

Ooty

Udhagamandalam

(Ooty) Udhagamandalam (Ooty), the capital of Nilgiri district, is popularly known as the "Queen of hill stations' among the tourist circuits. His writings served as a catalyst for the growth of the Dravidian movement in Tamil Nadu. In addition to poetry, his views found expression in other forms such as plays, film scripts, short stories and essays. He was mentored by Mahakavi Subramanya Bharathi (after whom he called himself "Bharathidasan"). But Bharathidasan, unlike Bharathi rarely used words derived from Sanskrit in his works; also Bharathidasan's works were more political.
Life
Bharathidasan was born in Pondicherry. His original name was Subburathinam. He underwent formal education in Tamil literature, Tamil grammar and Saiva Sidhantha Vedanta under reputed scholars. He also studied at the Collège Calvé in Pondicherry. In 1909, he was introduced to Subramanya Bharathi, and his interactions with the Mahakavi had a major impact on him. He initially worked as a Tamil teacher in the French territory of Karaikal.

He actively participated in the Indian Independence Movement and through his writings openly opposed the British and the French Government. He was sentenced and imprisoned by the French Government for voicing views against the French Government that was ruling Pondicherry then. He was a strong supporter of Periyar and an important member of the Suya-Mariyadhai (meaning Self-Respect) Dravida Movement (also known as the Anti-Brahmin movement), founded by Periyar. Biggest leader Pavalareru Perunchitthiranaar's Friend.

During the Atheist's conference in Chennai, he signed a document having the words "I am an undying atheist".

Throughout his writing career he was encouraged by political leaders such as Annadurai and M. G. Ramachandran. In 1954 he was elected to the Pondicherry Legislative Assembly. He remained a prolific writer until he died in 1964 in a hospital in Chennai.

Literary Works

Bharathidasan penned his works under different pseudonyms such as Puduvai Kalaimakal, Desopakari, Desabhaktan, Anantapotini, Swadesamitiran, Tamilarasu, Tupleks, Kirukkan, Kindalkaran and the name by which he known today - Bharathidasan. As he was a staunch follower of Anti-Brahmanism, many of his works were anti-Brahmin in nature. Often he talked of "Tamil Race" and "Aryan Race" as polar opposites.

His works include

Srimayilam Suppiramaniar Thuthiyamuthu

Sanjivi Parvathin Saaral

Edhirpaaraadha Mutham

Kaadhal Ninaivugal

Nalla Theerppu

Alagin Sirippu

Kudumba Vilakku

Pandiyan Parisu

Irunda Veedu

Tamil Illakiyam

Amaidhi - Oomai

Saumiyan

Kavingyar Pesugiraar

Kadhala Kadamaiya

Hindi Ethurppu Paadalgal

Kannagi Puratchik Kaapiyam

Manimekalai Venpa

Panmanithiral

Tenaruvi Isai Paadalgal

Subramania Bharati

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_dvZsQofhG38/SOJ7bGSw5GI/AAAAAAAAATM/lWtv9MGslKo/s200/Subramanya_Bharathi.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5251895820943418466" />

Subramania Bharati (Tamil: சுப்ரமணிய பாரதி) (December 11, 1882 - September 11, 1921) was a Tamil poet from Tamil Nadu, India, independence fighter and reformer. Known as Mahakavi Bharati (the laudatory epithet Maha Kavi meaning Great Poet in Tamil), he is celebrated as one of India's greatest poets. Bharati was prolific and adept in both the prose and poetry forms, and his rousing compositions helped rally the masses to support the Indian independence movement in South India. Bharati lived during an eventful period of Indian history; his contemporaries included other prominent leaders of the Indian independence movement such as Mahatma Gandhi, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Sri Aurobindo and V.V.S.Aiyar.

Early life

Bharati was born to Chinnasami Subramania Iyer and Lakshmi Ammaal on December 11, 1882 in the Tamil village of Ettayapuram. Bharati was educated at a local high school called "The M.D.T.Hindu College". He learnt music from very young age and at 11 was invited to a conference of Ettayapuram court poets and musicians for composing poems and songs. It was here that he was conferred the title of "Bharathi" (Goddess of learning). Bharati lost his mother at the age of 5 and his father at the age of 16. He married his cousin Chellamal in 1897, at the age of fourteen. After an early marriage, Bharati, curious to see the outside world, left for Benares in 1898. The next four years of his life served as a passage of discovery, when Bharathi discovered a country in tumult outside his small hamlet. Bharati worked as a school teacher in Madurai Sethupathy High School (Now a Higher Secondary School) and as a journal editor at various times in his life.

Literary career

Bharati had an exceptional love and devotion towards his mother tongue Tamil language, which he considered as the sweetest of all the languages known to him. He has written in one of his poems, 'Of all the languages I know, I have not heard a sweeter language than Tamil' (யாமறிந்த மொழிகளிலே தமிழ்மொழி போல் இனிதாவது எங்கும் காணோம்). He was fluent in many languages including Bengali, Hindi, Sanskrit, Kutchi, French and English and frequently translated works from other languages into Tamil. He had a voracious appetite for learning ancient and contemporary Tamil literature and derived astonishing insights from the ancient poems. He emphasized that musicians should not sing songs which they don't understand and should learn from Hindustani musicians how to train their voices. He was not a simple propagandist poet, however noble his patriotic and humanist sentiments were. He was also a seeker of beauty and philosophic wisdom. As a national poet, as a poet with a universal vision and as a poet of beauty and truth, he is comparable to some of the great poets of the world. Hence his claim to a lofty place in the great galaxy of world poetry.

A number of his creations are about nature. Both Bharati and Shelley were soaring spirits and loved the sparrow and the skylark respectively as symbols of freedom. But Bharathi is not content with the mindless joy of the sparrow; he wants to fly in the sky like a bird so that he can see the endless hills, springs, rivers and the sea. But the human body does not give him full freedom and he also recognizes that the very growth of human civilization is a hindrance to experiencing the bliss of the bird. But he never wants to surrender his humanity. He is alive to the fact that in the world of the bird, there is no intellectual joy of man. Whereas Shelley is unwilling to return to the earth because of its sadness (our sincerest laughter with some pain is fraught), Bharathi’s sparrow asks man to give up not life but desire. Bharathi’s poetry is not an escape from but into life.

Journalism

As a journalist, Bharati was the first in India to introduce caricatures and political cartoons to his newspapers; they were satirical and angry hand-drawn illustrations of the poet that improvised heavily on the works of his inspiration Thomas Nast. He published and edited various journals such as Swadeshamitran, India, Vijaya, and Bala Bharatham.

Innovation in Tamil poetry

Bharati was a pioneer in introducing a new style of Tamil poetry. Until then the poems had to follow the strict syntactic rules set down by the ancient Tamil grammatical treatise Tolkappiyam. Bharati broke this syntactic bonds and created a prose-poetic style known as the puthukkavithai (modern poems).

Literary output

Bharati's was a prolific writer and in his short life he produced numerous poems short and long, essays, prose-poetry and fiction. He wrote poems in both the conventional as well as his new style of puthukkavithai. His works may be broadly classified into these heading

Autobiography (சுய சரிதை)

Patriotic songs (தேசிய கீதங்கள்)

Philosophical songs (ஞானப்பாடல்கள்)

Miscellaneous songs (பல்வகைப் பாடல்கள்)

Devotional songs (தோத்திரப் பாடல்கள்)

Commentary on Gita (பகவத் கீதை முன்னுரை)

Kannan song, Kuyil song (கண்ணன் பாட்டு, குயில் பாட்டு)

Panchali's Vow (பாஞ்சாலி சபதம்)

Chandrika's story (சந்திரிகையின் கதை) (an unfinished novel)

Pappa Pattu (பாப்பாப் பாட்டு) (Songs for the Children)

Leaders

To know more about Bharathi check wiki.

About Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu is one of the states of India.
